Lagos Life Guide

A free browser life sim from Nigeria: what it is, how to play and why it went viral.

What is Lagos Life, and why is it blowing up?

The Lagos Life game is a free life sim that runs in your browser. You create a character, work, earn in-game naira, rent a home and share a version of Lagos with other players. It is similar to The Sims, but online and social, and it launched on 1 October 2026. So, what is Lagos Life in one line? A free, social life sim, not a way to make real money. This Lagos Life guide covers why it spread and how to play it safely.

Who made it

The creator is Shalom Rayhamen, who works under the name Eliy. The game’s terms say it is operated by Shalom Rayhamen, Nigeria. The press names her company as Vatar, says she is the only coder, and reports inspiration from The Sims 3 and the browser game Lagos Run. She told Zikoko she started coding the night after seeing Lagos Run trend and finished around 5am on 1 Oct.

Why it spread

Lagos you recognise

BusinessDay wrote that it “converted the language of Nigerian social media into a playable environment”. Places such as Quilox and Amala Shitta, and the Nepo and Lapo starts, are part of the talk.

Press-reported BusinessDay, 5 Oct Nexal Gaming, 5 Oct

One shared city

Nexal described thousands of players crowding into the same in-game club on 2 Oct, which is something a solo game cannot do.

Press-reported Nexal Gaming, 5 Oct

Wealth fantasy and escape

Players told TechCabal they enjoy living as a billionaire or owning property they could not own in real life.

Press-reported TechCabal, 8 Oct

“If you can’t be a baller in real life, you be a baller in Lagos Life.”

Victoria Eke, broadcaster. She also warned the game can be very addictive. Press-reported TechCabal, 8 Oct

“A million players is not yet a million regulars.”

Technext24, a note of caution. Techpoint also reported that some users questioned how players are counted, since sign-up did not require email verification. Press-reported Technext24 Techpoint, 5 Oct
